Two new class-D amplifiers from TI to enhance audio performance

Texas Instruments has introduced a 3.2-W per channel stereo Class-D amplifier TPA2028D1 and a 3-W mono Class-D amplifier TPA2026D2, both with fast gain ramp SmartGain Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and programmable Dynamic Range Compression (DRC). DRC is incorporated to boost soft volumes automatically thus resulting in louder volume from the speaker without increasing the peak voltage, thus allowing to compress the dynamic range of audio to match the dynamic range of the speaker. It is useful in designing cell phones, notebook PCs and portable DVD players.

TPA2028D1 drives 3 W/channel into 4 Ohms at 5 V for 43 percent higher output power and TPA2026D2 drives 3.2 W/channel into 4 Ohms at 5 V for 52 percent higher output. Low quiescent current, 10x reduction in offset voltage, low pop-noise are the other notable benefits of these ICs.

Package: 1.63-mm x 1.63-mm, 0.5-mm pitch, 9-ball WCSP.

Price: US$0.90 for 1,000-unit quantities
