1A VLDO linear regulator from Linear Technology for powering digital ICs

Linear Technology has introduced the LT3022, a 1A very low dropout linear regulator (VLDO). It has an input voltage capability from 10V down to 0.9V and adjustable output voltage from 9.5V down to 0.2V. It features low input voltage capability and low dropout voltage (145mV typical at full load). This feature finds use in low-voltage, high current rails in digital ICs such as FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, microprocessors and microcontrollers. It also finds application in low Vin low Vout conversions. It also offers low power operation at only 400uA quiescent current with less than 10uA in shutdown, thus saving run time in hand held operations.

The LT3022 regulator offers good response at low ESR and ceramic output capacitors as small as 10uF. It is said to provide ±3% output voltage accuracy over line, load and temperature, 0.1% typical line regulation and 0.1% typical load regulation. The internal protection circuitry includes reverse-battery protection, reverse output protection, reverse output-to-input (current) protection, current limiting, and thermal limiting with hysteresis.
