Power management IC for application processors

Maxim has introduced the MAX8893, a µPMIC for multimedia application processors. It consists of a step-down converter, three low-noise LDOs, two low-supply-current LDOs, one low-on-resistance load switch, and one Hi-Speed USB switch-all in a 2.5mm x 3.0mm, 30-bump wafer-level package (WLP) and therefore uses less space and cost. Enable pins are provided to all regulators and switches, thus the functionals blocks can be turned on/off as desired. This provides good power-management solution for multimedia application processors in portable devices such as cellular handsets. The LDOs provide low 45µVRMS output noise, a low dropout of only 100mV at 100mA and a low, 21µA ground current thus providing high battery life, they also have programmable output voltages. The 4MHz buck converter allows small external components and features dynamic voltage-scaling (DVS) control of the ramp rate (from 1mV/µs to 12mV/µs). Operating at input voltage of 0.8V to 2.4V, load switch features an on-resistance of 50mOhm, min.

Price: starts at US$1.95.
