LDO from Micrel respond quickly to load changes

Micrel has unveiled what it calls high speed LDO due to its quick response for any change in load current. The MIC47050 can deliver 500 milli Amps current from input voltage down to 1.0V. The MIC47050 is targeted for point-of-load, DSPs, PLDs, PDAs, FPGAs and low voltage post regulation applications. It is currently available in volume quantities and is priced at $0.62 for 1K quantities in the 2mm x 2mm MLF package.

"Many new point-of-load applications are beginning to use 1.8V as a main input power distribution rail while providing output voltages from 1.25V to 0.5V to power low voltage processor and microcontroller cores," noted Andy Khayat, business unit director of Micrel's portable products group. "The low Vin capability of Micrel's new device provides a high efficiency solution for the system designer."

MIC47050 requires 1uF ceramic output capacitor for stability. The device offers an operating voltage range of 1.0V to 3.6V input supply, 2.3V to 5.5V bias supply and 44mV dropout at full load. It comes with a 0.4V to 2.0V output voltage range and a PSRR of >55dB at 1kHz. The IC also gives designers high output voltage accuracy of +/- 1.5 percent initial accuracy and +/- 2 percent over temperature. The IC features a with an operating junction temperature range of -40-deg C to +125-deg C.
