RF prescalers by Analog Devices consume low power
Analog Devices has announced the availability of new RF prescaler circuits , ADF500x for a variety of applications, including point-to-point radios, VSATs (very small aperture terminals) and microwave communication systems. A prescaler circuit generates an output signal related to an input signal by a fractional scale factor. This device is designed using ADI's RF and PLL (phase locked loop) synthesizer design expertise, therefore offering high performance for a fixed divide ratio of 2, 4 or 8 and can operate to 18 GHz with very low power consumption.
This device uses a nominal 3-V supply having differential 100 ohms RF outputs which aids in providing direct interface to the differential RF inputs in ADI's PLL products. it includes three new devices namely the ADF5000 divide-by-2 prescaler; ADF5001 divide-by-4 prescaler and ADF5002 divide-by-8 prescaler.
This prescaler provides divide by 2, 4 or 8 options, integrated RF de-coupling capacitors. It consumes low power in active mode at 30 mA and power down mode at 7 mA. Its phase noise is low at -150 dBc/Hz and it uses single DC supply that is +3V compatible.
