Maxim's new switch-mode DC-DC chargers compliant with JEITA

Maxim has introduced the MAX8900A/MAX8900B switch-mode DC-DC chargers with JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) compliant battery temperature monitoring for safely charging lithium-polymer (Li-Poly) batteries. These chargers integrate ±20V overvoltage protection and therefore provide added security and reliability without external switches.

These chargers operate at high switching frequency of 3.25MHz, deliver charge current of 1.2A to the battery (3.4V to 6.3V for MAX8900A or 3.4V to 8.7V for MAX8900B) without generating excessive heat. These chargers are ideal for space constrained portable devices such as smartphones due to their low heat generation and small solution size. The charger's maximum charge current can be programmed from 50mA to 1200mA using a small external resistor and other charge parameters are also adjustable thus providing flexibility.

Package:
2.44mm x 2.67mm x 0.64mm, 40-bump wafer-level package (WLP) with a 0.4mm pitch,

Price: Starts at US$1.65
