Toshiba achieves hard disk drive storage density of close to 1 Gb per square mm
Toshiba is leading among the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) manufacturers to make the GB obsolete and TB (Tera Byte) a more common storage capacity measurement unit.
Toshiba has announced that it is sampling 2 platter 2.5-Inch HDD of capacity 750 GB in the month of Apr 2010. The MK7559GSXP HDD with memory area density of 839.1M bit/mm2 is ideal for portable computers, all-in-one desktop computers, televisions and set top boxes.
Toshiba has also introduced a new three-platter 12.5-millimeter hard disk drive coded MK1059GSM with 1TB of storage.
The MK7559GSXP consume 14% less power than its previous generation (MK6465GSX, 640GB) disk drives. These drives uses Toshiba technology to improve the perpendicular magnetic recording technology head and disk for increased capacities.
Toshiba has made these disk drives more environment friendly by making them Halogen-Free and RoHS compliant
