New 6 core, 32nm, high-K Xeon from Intel perform 60% higher than 45nm versions
Intel has launched Xeon Processor 5600 series with two new security features of Intel Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions and Intel Trusted Execution Technology for faster encryption and decryption and offering secure transactions for data centers supporting cloud computing.
These server processors are made using 32nm logic technology process with high-k metal gate transistors. The Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series supporting up to six cores per processor offer 60 percent greater performance than the 45nm Intel Xeon processor 5500 series. They consume 30 percent lower platform power compared Xeon 5570 series.
"The Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series will be the backbone of mainstream computing environments," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Group. "New security capabilities will boost the confidence of IT managers. Improvements in performance, server virtualization and power consumption will foster productivity and efficiency for a broad range of applications ranging from data transactions to workstations performing medical imaging and digital prototyping."
