IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant interface controller chips for Power over Ethernet devices

Maxim has introduced the MAX5969A/MAX5969B, a new IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant interface controllers for PoE+ PDs (powered devices). The new devices provide the PD with a detection signature, classification signature, and an integrated isolation power switch with inrush current control. The MAX5969A/MAX5969B devices are suitable for high-power applications such as IP phones, wireless LAN access points, IP security cameras, WiMAX base station and RFID readers.

Overtemperature Protection

TheMAX5969A/MAX5969B devices during the inrush period limits the current to less than 180mA before switching to the high current limit (720mA to 880mA) when the isolation power MOSFET is fully enhanced. Additionally, integrated wall-adapter detection circuitry enables the switchover from PoE power to wall power, thus simplifying PD backup-power designs.
