Sub-1uA IQ shunt battery charger system IC from Linear for Li-Ion/Polymer batteries

Linear has introduced the LTC4070, a new Sub-1uA IQ shunt battery charger system IC
that offers 450nA to 50mA of operating current, which charges and protects batteries from previously unusable low current, intermittent or continuous charging sources. The LTC4070 chip is suitable to charge thin film batteries such as Li-Ion/Polymer batteries, coin cell batteries, memory backup, solar-powered systems with backup, embedded automotive and energy scavenging/harvesting aplications.

LTC4070 IC with the addition of an external pass device, shunt current may be boosted to 500mA. Stacked cell high voltage battery packs are inherently balanced with shunt charging.

The key features of the LTC4070 IC are,

1% float voltage accuracy over full temperature and shunt current range
50mA of maximum internal shunt current (500mA with external PFET)
Pin selectable float voltage options: 4.0V, 4.1V, 4.2V
Low power pulsed NTC float conditioning for Li-Ion/Polymer protection
Power charging sources
Low and high battery status outputs
Simple low voltage load disconnect application

In conjunction with an external PFET in series with the load, the low battery status output enables a latch-off function that automatically disconnects the system load from the battery to protect the battery from deep discharge.

Operating temperature range: -40°C to 125°C

Package: 8-Lead (2mm × 3mm) DFN and MSOP package
Price: Starts at each $2.06 and $2.31 for 1k pieces quantities for both packages, in E and I grades
Availability: Now
