Atmel’s new 1.8V Low Power CPLD with 32kbits of onchip EEPROM.
Atmel has released new CPLD family called ATF15xxBE with a unique macrocell architecture with an independent feedback paths for both the register and combinatorial logic. The basic advantage of this architecture is, the designer can optimize the register and combinational logic resources available on chip. This logic doubling utilization is automatic through Atmel’s ProChip Designer fitter.
Pin to pin compatible with both 5V ATF15xxAS and 3.3V ATF15xxASV. Atmel says this family is also alternative to Altera’s EPM3000 and EPM7000 CPLDs, Xilinx’s XC2CxxA and Lattice’s LC40xxZ CPLDs.
This 1.8V CPLD consumes only 5 uA during standby and during normal operation, it consumes 1mA at operating frequency of 20 MHz. Though quite rare, you will get huge on chip EEPROM of 32K bits.
The suggested functions are, system watchdog, MCU I/O port expansion, memory interface, LCD display module drivers, and voltage translators.
Since it’s power consumption is very low, the targeted applications are hi-fi remote control toys, cell phones and mobile hand-held gadgets.
Availbility: ATF1502BE and ATF1504BE CPLDs are Sampling Now. The 128 macrocell ATF1508BE CPLD will be available in 2Q07
