Intel demonstrates new chipset designed for WiMAX and Wi Fi

Intel has demonstrated a laptop with "WiMAX Connection 2300" wirelessly surfing the internet at broadband speeds at 3G world congress in HongKong.
The WiMAX Connection 2300 is integrated with WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e-2005) ), Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n), and high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) for 3G.
The WiMAX will be experiencing a fast pace growth both in developed and developing countries. Intel addressing this market through this demonstration will help the WiMAX application developers to plan for their developments on Intel processor based systems.
Intel says, this is a step closer in bringing SOC kind of products for wireless broadband.
Intel has added multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) functionality into the baseband chip. Both WiMAX and Wi Fi solutions uses same software in the baseband chip.

The system can be configured remotely on air, so that system activation and shifting of service providers will be easier for consumer. The size and power consumption issue are taken care by keeping industry's best.

The samples are available by the end of 2007.
