IEEE802.3U compliant dual port transceivers from National Semiconductor
National has released three new dual port physical layer transceivers(DP83849C, DP83849ID, DP83849I and DP83849IF) to interface with Microcontrollers, and specially mentioned are, 68K and PowerQUICC Microcontrollers from Freescale.
The super features are,
They can diagnize the cable with tests such as time domain reflectometry to detect cable faults, dynamic link quality monitor to relatively measure cable link condition.
A technology called flex-port switching capability which allows two ports to be internally connected to provide fully integrated distance extension, fiber-to-copper media conversion and hardware-based failover.
The other key features are,
This family can handle a cable length of 137 meters, which is 13 meters higher than the Ethernet IEEE 802.3u specification of 100 meters.
Can be interfaced to twisted pair media or fiber through an external transceiver.
Direct interface to media access control (MAC) devices through the IEEE 802.3u-compliant MII or RMII interfaces.
Auto-MDIX feature allows the end user to use either straight or cross-over cables.
Each part no. is customized for different applications with some additional features.
