Avago ships high-speed optocouplers for IPM apps

Avago Technologies has announced three high speed optocouplers operating at 10MBd to work as electrical signal isolators in Intelligent Power Module (IPM) interface applications in AC and brushless DC motor drives, industrial inverters, air conditioners, renewable energy inverters, sewing machines and switching power supplies, as well as gate drive applications and general digital isolation.

ACPL-x484 optocouplers offer common-mode rejection (CMR) of 30 kV/µs and also offer fast switching with short propagation delays of 100 ns.

"These new optocouplers demonstrate our ability to bring value to customers by pushing the speed limits of IPM and gate drive interface performance," said Kheng-Jam Lee, marketing director for optocoupler products at Avago. "The devices' robust noise rejection, flexible supply voltage range and multiple compact packages extend our market-leading optocoupler portfolio to better address a wider range of industrial and white goods applications."

Additional ACPL-x484 features includes:
Minimized pulse width distortion (PWD) for fast drive
Under voltage lock-out (UVLO) with hysteresis for IPM protection
Low Icc supply current to allow for bootstrap supplies
Positive output type (totem pole output)
Truth table guaranteed: Vcc from 4.5V to 30V
Industrial temperature range: -40°C to 105°C
Low LED drive current of 4mA (min)

The ACPL-M484 and ACPL-P484 optocouplers offer input-output withstand voltage of 3,750 Vrms and the ACPL-W484 device offers 5,000 Vrms, each for 1 minute for UL 1577-compliance. The devices meet IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2 approval with working voltage (Viorm) of 560 Vpeak for ACPL-M484, 891 Vpeak for ACPL-P484 and 1140 Vpeak for ACPL-W484. They are also CSA approved. The ACPL-M484 device is available in an SO-5 package with both clearance and creepage of 5 mm. The ACPL-P484 device is available in a stretched SO-6 package with clearance and creepage of 7 mm and 8 mm, respectively. The ACPL-W484 device is available in a stretched SO-6 package with clearance and creepage of 8 mm.
