STMicroelectronics and Usound sample MEMS Micro- Speakers

STMicroelectronics and Usound have collaborated to deliver the first silicon micro-speakers which are being sampled to lead customers and is also demonstrated at CES 2018, in Las Vegas.

These thin micro-speakers weigh half of conventional speakers making them suitable for applications such as very small and sleek earphones, over-the-ear headphones, or Augmented-Reality/Virtual-Reality (AR/VR) headgear. The advantage of using mems Speaker is not only saving the size , but also the power consumption which need smaller batteries.

MEMS-industry analyst Yole Développement sees the total market size of $8.7 billion for micro-speakers currently.

hearable electronics, home digital assistants, media players, and IoT devices are some more applications suggested for this devices.
