High-speed CAN transceiver IC for automotive in-vehicle networking

ON Semiconductor introduced a new high-speed Controller Area Network (CAN) transceiver IC, NCV7341 for automotive in-vehicle networking (IVN) applications.

The NCV7341 CAN transceiver, which offers very low power consumption, is certified to the requirements of the Generalized Interoperable Fault Tolerant (GIFT) CAN transceiver specification and is pin compatible with devices from third parties.

Features include:

1. This new application specific standard product (ASSP) provides the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical bus.
2. Compliant with the ISO 11898-5 standard for CAN physical layer transmission in automotive IVNs at rates up to 1 megabit per second (Mbit/s).
3. The new controller has a sleep mode and a very low current stand-by mode (20 micro-amp (µA)) with remote wake up via the bus.
4. An integrated inhibit switch can be used to further reduce overall power consumption by disabling external voltage regulators.
5. A differential receiver with a high common-mode input range helps minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).
6. Features a number of built-in safety features including thermal protection.
7. Suitable for connecting up to 110 nodes
8. The IC offers microcontroller-compatible input levels for ease of design.
9. Operating temperature range of -40º C to 125 ºC.
10. Has received 'OEM-approved' status from a global automotive manufacturer

Pricing: $1.53 per unit in quantities of 1K or more.
